UW Magazine pays homage to everyone's favorite four-legged friend on his seventh birthday.

By Jon Marmor | December 2024

Woo woo! Lovable Dubs II celebrates his seventh birthday on Jan. 4. The UW’s official mascot is not so little anymore, as the furry chatterbox will tell you every chance he gets. He assumed his duties from Dubs I in fall 2018, when Husky Athletics hosted a “Passing the Collar” ceremony, as UW President Ana Mari Cauce removed the official Dawg collar from Dubs I and placed it on the pup apparent. Ever since, the Sammamish resident has been having a ball, getting his photo taken about a billion times, racing out onto the Husky Stadium field before every home football game and receiving more hugs than any creature on the planet. And he sure deserves them.

Because she spends so much time looking at our photo archive of everyone’s favorite malamute, we let Caitlin Klask, our digital editor, pick seven of her favorite Dubs II photos for his seventh birthday.

#1: Starting at the beginning! Puppy Dubs II stole our hearts on March 4, 2018 with this photo by Scott Eklund/Red Box Pictures.

Did I trick you? Of course not, you know Dubs I when you see him. RIP to this legend. Now back to the birthday boy.

#6: He’s so brave, he’s well-behaved, he is not afraid. Photo by April Hong.

#7: And finally, our fuzzy Valentine. May Dubs’ lucky seventh birthday bring you a fortuitous new year.
