In the Club: Hockey with UW junior Bennett Jarvis

“Hockey is not why we are here. We are here because we are UW students, and hockey is just part of that.”

“I live in what we call ‘the hockey house,’ with nine other hockey players. So my teammates are even my roommates. We book our own flights. We book our own hotels. We have to figure out our practice schedule, as well as our game schedule. But our coach helps so much with it.”

“When I was first coming to college, I wasn’t planning to play hockey. I was kinda burnt out from growing up playing so competitively. It was very intense. Being a goalie, there was lot of pressure. So I think I was just done with it. But then I met the guys on this team, and the coach, and heard what the team was all about. It was a club team that focuses on academics first.”

“They want players to have a good time, but we’re still going to work hard and be competitive, so I really like that. I like the attitude of this team that knows winning is really important, but at the end of the day, it’s not the end of the world if we don’t win. That’s why I think I keep playing: The community that this hockey team gave me is what really matters to me.”
