Minnesota native Pearl Engebord Catlin was incredibly proud of her Swedish heritage. And the anthropology major was one sharp cookie. She learned how to speak Swedish by listening to her parents: They used it as a “secret” language when they didn’t want the children to know what they were saying.
Hmm, wonder how you say, “Did Pearl do her chores?” in Swedish. Catlin died April 29 at 98. But we bet she is still listening.
