Jenneth Webster, ’65, helps New York celebrate the arts

While most people think Lincoln Center is a place to enjoy symphony, opera, dance and drama, Jenneth Webster’s job is to bring puppet shows, clown acts, jazz, tap dancing and music from a host of cultures to New York’s premier performing arts center.

Webster, who received a UW degree in drama in 1965, is producer and artistic director of the Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Festival, New York City’s largest, free, outdoor arts celebration. After graduation, Webster won an American Broadcasting Company talent contest which sent her, free of charge, to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She later appeared in a repertory company in New Orleans and then moved into theater administration, working in Florida and later for the Ford Foundation. She started as a secretary at Lincoln Center 10 years ago and has headed up the Out-of-Doors Festival for the past four.
