In the 1975 classic movie “Jaws,” movie goers were treated to one of the best lines in cinema history: “You’re going to need a bigger boat.” Well, Jean Smart, ’74, might need a bigger house to house all the awards she receives. The graduate of the UW School of Drama took home another honor on Feb. 23 when she was named Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
For the third time in four years, Smart was recognized for playing comedian Deborah Vance in “Hacks.” She won her first SAG award in 2022, followed by 2023 and this year. (Her show was in between seasons in 2024 or she would have won that, too.)
Now, there was a bit of disappointment a few weeks ago because Smart didn’t attend the Feb. 23 Screen Actors Guild Award show. But she had a great excuse: she was on location shooting the fourth season of “Hacks.”
These awards are just a snippet of what Smart has received. She has taken home six Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and nominations for a Tony Award and a Grammy (2016) for Best Spoken Word Album.
If that weren’t enough, in 2022 she was presented with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
She may need a steamship to hold all her awards by the time she hangs up her acting shoes.
