Ring leaders

The UW Boxing Club doesn't just teach how to jab, hook and counterpunch. It teaches how to succeed.

Finding my father

I was 55 when my father passed away at the age of 80, the victim of a stroke. I had to wait another 17 years from the time of his death to finally receive his unexpected “gift.” Somehow he resurrected himself and had me cheering for the man I had long ago given up on.

Give Me 5: Tiffani Walker

The first woman on the staff of the men’s team, Walker is the only woman on the staff of any Pac-12 men’s basketball team.

On Dubs' mind

Getting a little snout time with DUBS, the UW’s 13th live mascot, an Alaskan Malamute.

Homecoming

In a few short days, we get to come home to our spiffed up Husky Stadium, and boy, will that feel amazing.

Purple lane

Since 1920, the track encircling the football field at Husky Stadium was the surface upon which 27 Olympians and 36 NCAA champions sweat for UW. The new—and very purple—Husky Track has been more than 20 years in the making, but the wait was well worth it for track coach Greg Metcalf.

UW's first race

The first intercollegiate race for University of Washington crew – a program with some of the school’s most amazing athletic feats and that’s produced more Olympic medalists than any other Husky sport – came one Wednesday evening on Lake Washington.

Soviets in Seattle

When Washington hosted the inaugural Windermere Cup in 1987, it was the first competition for Soviet rowers in the United States in 25 years.

May magic

Every year, Huskies say the Windermere Cup creates a greatest moment for someone: a student athlete, a coach, alum, a band member, or family members watching with sack lunches along the cut.

Great expectations

The Husky golf teams find themselves in a similar position: perched high in team and individual rankings. So high, in fact, that the phrase “national champion” can’t help but creep into conversation.
